This is a route that should be attempted by the experienced trekker…one who is already acclimatised or used to high altitudes. The reason for this is that on this route you will start your trek already quite high up at an altitude of 3,500m.

Day 1 You arrive at AMEG LODGE for overnight.
Day 2 Breakfast. Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Londorossi. The first section of the climb is through the lush forest close to the gate at 2,750m taking 4 to 5 hours. Overnight Forest Camp.
Day 3 Continue through the forest onto the Shira Plateau to reach Shira Camp (3,800m). Overnight at Shira Camp.
Day 4 Leaving the forest, the path continues to follow the ridge, passing through heather and open moorlands to reach Barranco Camp (3,900m). Overnight stay at Barranco Camp.
Day 5 The path climbs steeply out of Barranco Valley, crosses the Karanga Valley and turns north to reach Barafu Camp (4,600m). Overnight stay at Barafu Camp.
Day 6 A long day and an early start to reach the crater rim at Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then continue on to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Descend to Barranco and down on to Mweka (3,700m). Overnight stay at Mweka Camp.
Day 7 Descend to the park gate. You are transferred back to AMEG LODGE KILIMANJARO for your overnight stay.
Day 8 Breakfast at AMEG LODGE KILIMANJARO. End of tour.
