Typical Itineraries

Lake Manyara National Park is located 200kms west of Moshi (see map) and lies at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is 330 square kilometers in size of which 230 square kilometers are lake. The park contains a large variety of habitats; the Rift Valley wall, ground water, acacia woodland, open grassland, the lake shore, swamps, and the lake itself. It is due to this variety of habitats that the park is able to support a large number of different species.

Lake Manyara can be visited as part of a more comprehensive safari that would include Ngorongoro Crater and/or Serengeti. Alternatively, it can also be visited as a day excursion.

Wildlife
The park boasts a variety of wildlife. From the moment you enter the park, the trees are screaming with life…families of squabbling baboons, storks, the occasional fish eagle… If you are observant enough, you might catch a glimpse of the famous tree climbing lions! Other wildlife includes a variety of antelope, giraffe, hyena, zebra, buffalo, and a large population of hippopotamus. Over 350 species of bird have also been recorded here.
