Typical Itineraries

Tarangire is a spectacular park especially during the drier months when a lot of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of the Tarangire river. It is the sheer number of baobab trees that first capture the eye as you enter the park. The countryside is covered with these majestic trees, which seem to dwarf the animals feeding beneath.

Symbolised by this great baobab and 2,600 square kilometers in area, Tarangire National Park is located South-East of Manyara (see map). Being in such close proximity to Moshi and AMEG LODGE, Tarangire can also be visited as a day excursion.

Wildlife
In between the spread of baobab trees, you will see the more common acacia trees…and where there is acacia…there is giraffe. But Tarangire is also famous for the huge elephant population. Here you will get views of the great African Elephant that you will remember for years to follow (see photo gallery…our favourites). It is also fairly common to sight the shy leopard here. On a good day, you might just get lucky and see the leopard lazing on a ‘comfortable’ branch of the great baobab. Large herds of various antelope including eland, impala, and Thompson’s gazelle can be seen along with zebra, buffalo, and wildebeest.
